Camp Mariposa @ Pasadena Waldorf School

Pasadena Waldorf School is pleased to host Grades and Early Childhood Summer Camps at our Mariposa Street campus located at 209 E Mariposa St. See program descriptions and event registration below.

GRADES CAMP

$375 per week

8:30 am – 3:30 pm Monday-Friday

 June 11- August 3 (no Camp July 2-6)

Students currently enrolled at PWS and students from other schools who are enrolled in grades 2-8 for the 2018-19 school year are invited to join us for a summer of fun and social activity on our Mariposa Street campus. Students will engage in a mix of indoor and outdoor activities including arts and crafts, drama and theater, storytelling, handwork, woodwork, nature exploration and play for five full days of fun each week!

June 11-15 – Art through the Ages:  Create art projects inspired by great civilizations of the past with PWS High School art teacher Josh Peters! This week we will focus on developmentally appropriate versions of art projects inspired by various cultures and time periods; Prehistoric, Ancient Egypt, Classical Greece, the Middle Ages, and The Renaissance. Children will also learn about each civilizations to better understand the purpose and meaning of the art which they produce. Techniques will range from painting, sculpture, collage and drawing.

June 18-22 – Magic of Design and Storytelling:  Join PWS High School animation teacher Nak Choi in a week of arts and crafts centered around character and set design! Through paints, paper arts, flipbooks, costume design, shoebox dioramas and storytelling, campers will create their own worlds and characters and share them with their fellow students.

June 25-29 – Nature Camp; Exploring Altadena :  Join PWS High School biology teacher Dr. Bas Van Schooten, PhD in exploring our local environment through microscopes, fun research projects and ecological observation. Activities will be centered around exploring, inquiring and gaining curiosities about the biology of the natural world around us. Hands-on exploration of the world of insects and amphibians will be a focus. This week will focus one day off-site at Millard Canyon,in which parents will drop off and pick up their kids directly from the head of the Canyon site.

July 9-13 – Woodworking: PWS woodworking teacher Michelle Foxx will lead students to learn both the challenges and rewards of working with wood in this hands-on week of projects. Each student will learn safety, technique, and how to execute a successful project both individually and as a team. Focus will be on one main project with a few additional projects as time allows.

July 16-20 – Paper Crafts:  Join PWS First Grade teacher César Cázares for a colorful week of arts and crafts with Papel Maché! Campers will choose to make an animal of their choice, a piñata, a piggy bank, and miniature figurines using paper clay. Children will learn to make all the materials to craft these beautiful objects using various techniques, including painting each project using the Alebrije method, a Mexican folk art technique.

July 23-27- Drama and Theater: Join PWS High School’s Corby Gallegos for a week of theater arts camp. More information coming soon!

July 30- Aug 3- Color and Curiosity with Natural Dyes:  Join PWS Middle School handwork teacher Lilia Lopez in exploring various techniques of dyeing with elements found in nature.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CAMP

$375 per week

3, 4 and 5 Day Schedule 

(Limited number of 3 and 4 day options)

Early childhood students enrolled in preschool, kindergarten, or first grade for the 2018-19 school year at PWS are invited to an EC camp this summer.  Camp will provide a rhythm and structure that is aligned with our regular school days. There will be themes and special activities designed for a fun and relaxed summer experience. Students will be involved in activities and class responsibilities according to their age, interest, and developmental level.
