Position Title: Grade 1 Class Teacher for the 2024-25 School Year

Position Summary

Pasadena Waldorf School is seeking a Grade 1 Class Teacher to join our faculty in July 2024.We invite you to join us in our commitment to Waldorf education as a support and positive guide to our youngest grade school class. 

Pasadena Waldorf School was founded in 1979 and today serves more than 300 students. PWS education offerings begin with Parent-Child, Pre-School, and Kindergarten programs and extend to grades 1-12.  

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to Waldorf pedagogy and Anthroposophy. They are supported by an established College of Teachers, an energetic parent body, and a robust Board of Trustees. Our expanded curriculum includes choral and instrumental music, handwork, woodwork, physical education, outdoor play and gardening, movement, and two world languages. The school is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA).

Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree required. 

  • While we understand that good teachers may come to us from a variety of backgrounds and trainings, Waldorf Teacher Training completed or willingness to enroll in full teacher training program is important to us.  

  • Willingness to learn and understand the unique cultural and work environment of a Waldorf school. 

  • Lesson/program planning and classroom management skills required. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills required. 

  • CPR/First Aid certification preferrable or required at hire. 

  • Background check clearance mandatory. 

Benefits and Compensation:  

  • This is a full-time, salaried position.  

  • Employee benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending account (FSA), health savings account (HSA), and a retirement plan. Tuition Remission is offered for the employees’ eligible dependents in our Pre-School-Grade 12 programs (Staff fees apply). 

  • We support ongoing professional development in both individual and group formats throughout the school year.  

  • The full-time teaching annual salary base is $50,000 with pay increments for training and experience.  

  • Salaries are paid on a semi-monthly basis over a 12-month period. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment: 

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

  • The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for long periods and bend/twist/kneel from time-to-time throughout the workday.  

  • The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Anything over the weight limit should be completed as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift. 

  • PWS is made up of multiple buildings and campuses with uneven surfaces and terrain. 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but at times, machines can get loud for those with sensitive hearing.  

  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold and varying degrees of daylight.
