Position Title: Lower Grades Cello and Beginning Strings Teacher 

FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Hourly

Position Overview 
PWS is seeking a part-time cello teacher. This candidate should have experience teaching group classes, and be comfortable working out of an experiential/Suzuki method. You will teach young musicians who cannot yet reliably read music and who are in the beginning stages of learning their instruments. The cello teacher will work collaboratively with another music teacher who will focus on violin and viola players within those class groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach cello and co-teach strings in grades 3 and 4 

  • Substitution for other teachers within the PWS lower grades music program 

  • Attendance at weekly department meetings 

  • Practice, attend, and participate in the Spring music concert and other school gatherings or performances as requested by the music department 

  • Preparation of student and group reports for parent conferences and school report schedule as set by Pedagogical Administrator.  Support for documentation to outside entities as needed 

  • Report and collaborate with the music department director, Pedagogical Administrator, classroom teachers and other faculty as needed

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree in music, music education, or a related field preferred, commensurate work experience considered. 

  • Previous teaching experience working with younger students preferred. 

  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to the needs and abilities of the students. 

  • Proficiency in cello or strings performance with high level of technical skills preferred. 

  • Knowledge of music curriculum standards and the ability to develop lesson plans that align with Waldorf pedagogy. 

  • Familiarity with or willingness to understand the unique cultural work environment of a Waldorf school. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively teach and motivate young students. 

  • CPR/First Aid certification required.  

  • Background check and tuberculosis (TB) testing required.

Compensation: 

  • Hourly rate: $55.75 per class period 

  • Meeting rate: $25.00 per hour 

  • This is a contract position which begins in mid-August 2024 through June 30, 2025. 

  • Required professional development and employee meetings for this role will begin in mid-August 2024. 

  • Regular work hours for this role begin in September 2024. 

  • The work schedule is drafted for teaching 2 periods, two days per week, and one weekly planning meeting.  

  • There may be updates to this work schedule due to changes in the school program, calendar, and or class activities. 

  • Collaborative planning and preparation meetings and or mentoring will take place as arranged by the Lower Grades Music Director.  These meetings will be paid at the meeting rate.

The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Anything over the weight limit should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.
