Movement & Athletics
Physical growth, as well as intellectual growth, is a highly valued facet of the PWS high school experience. Our Physical Education Program is a four year journey centered on discovering and connecting with the physical body. Through a wide range of movement experiences (sport, dance, Somatic Education, and various conditioning methods), the P.E. curriculum emphasized building adaptive, well aligned, highly functioning bodies, within a nurturing, disciplined, and collaborative environment.
We are committed to developing a robust sports program. Team sports contribute to the strong, interconnected, and supportive student community for which PWS is famous. To that end, we intend to field competitive high school teams for both boys and girls, and become members of California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section in order to compete with other schools in our area.
To reach this goal, we need to achieve a certain “critical mass” of students that are interested and able to play the sports we will be offering. We expect that between 2015 and 2016 we will have enough students to build competitive teams. Until that time, we encourage our students to continue playing with their club teams outside of school, in order to continue their growth as athletes. More importantly, we will encourage and support any the students desire to play competitive sports through faculty-supported student clubs. We envision that these clubs, growing organically from students’ desire to play, will be the foundation of our budding sports program.
