Special funds allow PWS to build resources towards a specific goal or for a specific program.
McComb Foundation Matching Fund. In honor of our 25th Anniversary in 2005, PWS received a generous grant of $250,000 towards an Assembly Hall from the McComb Foundation. Our Board of Trustees issued a challenge to the PWS community to match that fund. With incredible energy, enthusiasm, and generosity, the goal was met as of May 31, 2008, increasing this fund to $500,000 to be applied to the planning and preparation necessary for expanding our campus with an Assembly Hall.
High School Fund. As we prepare and plan for our targeted High School opening date in the fall of 2012, Pasadena Waldorf School formalized a financial commitment to this goal with this fund. In the coming months and years, plans will be underway to launch a fund raising campaign to help us expand our program to include a High School.
A fund may be named to memorialize a deceased family member or friend. It may be named for a teacher, corporation, or organization in honor of someone special.
Grace Sanders Endowment Fund. Beginning as a founding parent and seeing the school through many incarnations, Grace Sanders has carried a spirit of love, passion, commitment, and dedication, as well as an invaluable wealth of knowledge for our school. It has always been Grace’s wish that this school that she loves so dearly, be financially accessible to all who want a Waldorf education. At our 2008 May Faire, we honored Grace and her vision for PWS by announcing the Grace Sanders Endowment to support diversity here at PWS.
Kwame K. Gordon Memorial Scholarship Fund. Kwame Gordon was a special human being who shared his funny, caring, and warm personality with his classmates and teachers at PWS from kindergarten through eighth grade. Established after Kwame’s death in June 2006 by friends and family as a tribute to Kwame’s life and to the family’s connection with the Pasadena Waldorf School community, the fund is used to provide tuition assistance to families in need, giving the gift of Waldorf education to a first-time PWS student for his or her first Kindergarten year. The Annual Repast honoring Kwame was held on the grounds of PWS on Sunday, June 29, 2008.
Paquita Lick Machris Bequest. In the fall of 2007, the school received a $25,000 bequest from Paquita Lick Machris, whose original gift to the school in 1986 allowed PWS to purchase its current site. Our Board of Directors decided to allocate this money towards our new High School Fund.
Gael Blair Memorial Fund. Beloved by family, friends, students, and colleagues, Gael Blair was a teacher at PWS from 1994 until her death in 1999. Gael brought a spirit of dedicated commitment to our community and was known for her unconditional love of her students. Fund proceeds go towards tuition assistance.
Alice C. Tyler Tuition Assistance Fund. A $300,000 endowment established over a three-year period beginning in 1999, Pasadena Waldorf School gratefully uses the interest from this fund for tuition assistance in support of diversity at PWS.
