Physical Education and Athletics
Physical growth as well as intellectual growth is an important part of the high school experience. We consider our Physical Education program a four-year journey in athletic and outdoor adventure. The P.E. program will focus on expanding each student’s physical capacities while deepening his or her level of self-respect.
We are committed to developing a robust sports program at PWHS. Team sports contribute to the strong, interconnected, and supportive student community for which Waldorf schools are famous. To that end, we intend to field competitive teams for both boys and girls, and become members of California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section to compete with other schools in our area.
To reach this goal, we need to achieve a certain “critical mass” of students that are interested and able to play the sports we’re offering. We expect that between 2015 and 2016, PWHS will have enough students to build these teams. We are very fortunate to have access to a variety of sports facilities at William Carey International University; many other Waldorf schools in our position have had hardly a grassy field from which to grow their sports program!
Until that time, we encourage students to continue playing with their club teams outside of school, in order to continue their growth as athletes. More importantly, we will encourage and support any the students desire to play competitive sports through faculty-supported student clubs. We envision that these clubs, growing organically from the students’ desire to play, will be the foundation of our budding sports program.
